Our roots on Staten Island go deep.
We began providing health care for the low-income and uninsured residents of Richmond County more than two decades ago as a satellite outpatient clinic of St. Vincent’s Catholic Hospital. In 2006, the Community Health Center of Richmond incorporated as an independent, diagnostic and treatment center licensed under Article 28 of the New York State Public Health Law. In 2009, CHCR achieved the full designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center. We receive financial support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration and our clinicians maintain hospital admitting privileges at both Richmond University Medical Center and Staten Island University Hospital.
We expanded our services to include dental health care in 2014 with the opening of our second facility, the CHCR Dental and Medical Specialty Center. We also provide primary and podiatric care at our state-of-the-art building at 439 Port Richmond Avenue.
In 2016, we opened our third health care center, the CHCR Stapleton-St. George Health Center at 135 Canal Street, Suite 300.
Along with dental health care, we have added behavioral health care and community programs to benefit women and children, including our Maternal and Infant Community Health Program and Healthy Start. CHCR also provides insurance enrollment assistance through the New York State of Health, The Official Health Plan Marketplace.
CHCR is a Take Care New York partner and participates in numerous collaborations and associations. With our partnerships and federal support, we are well positioned to expand and fulfill our mission to provide affordable, accessible healthcare for all.
