A message from the Chief Executive Officer
Community health centers, such as CHCR, are economic engines.
It is an exciting time for CHCR! We have embarked on numerous initiatives to expand access to primary health care for the people of Staten Island; create jobs and opportunities by growing our workforce through new facilities and programs; and serve as stewards of the multiple investments made by our community, business, and government stakeholders.
As you read this annual report, you will notice key milestones that we have accomplished in our continued growth and development. For example, we opened our second location, the CHCR Dental and Medical Specialty Center, to expand primary care services, including dental and podiatry, in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island.
We have expanded our efforts to address the need for primary care services in high-need areas, including the Stapleton, Park Hill, and Clifton neighborhoods. Most recently, we launched the Staten Island Perinatal Network for better birth outcomes to improve the health of mothers and infants during pregnancy and beyond. We remain at the forefront of utilizing our electronic health records to coordinate and optimize quality of care for all those who come to our doors, as evidenced by our status as a Level Three Patient Centered Medical Home.
Through our workforce development, many of our staff have pursued advanced degrees in order to increase their knowledge and professional competencies for serving in their respective roles and playing a bigger part in CHCR’s continued success. Our family-friendly policies and support for our workforce are important to our future.
Finally, we embarked on this journey back in 2010 during our first strategic planning process. As we approach the updating of our strategic plan in 2016 we are fortunate to be in a position to charter our own destiny. Our growth, future successes, and overall well-being would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of our family board members and many other stakeholders that were key to establishing CHCR.
We remain grateful and steadfast in the opportunities and journey that lies ahead and look forward to a healthier Staten Island for all.
